History of the Centre
The Coulsdon Community Centre Association was set up in October 2005 to run the Centre, with the building leased from the London Borough of Croydon. The Association is in the process of registering with the Charities Commission.
The Centre is now directly managed for the benefit of the community by an elected committee of local people and users.
Originally known as Coulsdon Boys Club, and more recently, Coulsdon Youth & Social Centre, the Centre was built on land generously donated by the Ray family around 1930, and constructed with Rotary Club funds. The remit was ‘Community Social Use’. The wheel has thus turned full circle, with our new identity of Coulsdon Community Centre.
Since October we have introduced a new cleaning and caretaking contract – a major improvement in itself. The Centre has also undergone major redecoration and improvement work, including redecoration and the complete renewal of the Kitchen and the central heating system, much to the delight of our current users.
